DIY Christmas Decorations

Christmas is just around the corner and about 2 weeks ago or so, we got our home ready for the festive season. I mean, if they can start selling decorations and chocolates in October/November, it’s about time we got our act together.

Since it’s our first Christmas in our new place we got to decide on colours and think about what elements we wanted to decorate with.

Baubles on trees? Whaaa?

In January we had already bought lots of baubles because they were on sale after Christmas and we decided to not only hang them on the tree (which will come at a later date because it will be a real tree, as is common in Germany) but also to use them for table decorations.

We bought some new vases and filled them with leds and baubles, which is nice and sparkly, like it should be. One vase is green and silver and the other is red, green and silver and is surrounded by a wreath. We also have some cardboard stars from Ikea, both red, that are in our windows. Furthermore, we were gifted some lovely handmade yellow led stars that are also hanging in the window.

Advents candles are also a big thing here and are used to count down to Christmas. Each Advent Sunday, a new candle is lit and when all four are burning…it’s Christmas time! This year we made our own, nice and simple. The wreath was bought in a store and the pine cones we simply collected outdoors.

To top it all off, we bought a line of ‘curtain’ leds and hung them from the tops of the windows. Needless to say, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…
